.40-60 caliber with a 28" barrel. Manufactured in 1888. The large frame Colt slide action rifles were only manufactured from 1887 to 1894 with 6,496 manufactured during this period. The calibers offered mirrored the Model 1886 Winchester and were produced to compete in the repeating large caliber gun marketplace. The barrel is stamped .40-60-260 which refers to the original bullet weight. It is a standard model with full octagon barrel, full magazine, blued finish, walnut stocks, crescent butt and sporting sights. Gun retains approximately 90% of the reapplied blue finish, albeit there is a 1” area of light rust on top left frame, a 3/4” area of rust on magazine, and a couple spots of minor rust on end of barrel. Wooden stocks are far above average, original finish, proud to metal with no cracks or major chips and the checkering is still very sharp on the deluxe forend with one minor chip. The bore exhibits strong rifling, but a bit dulled. Action works perfectly.
