.38-40 caliber with a 20" barrel. Manufactured in 1892. The Winchester factory research indicates this carbine’s serial number was applied September 30th, 1892 and was shipped from the warehouse January 25th, 1893 as a .38 caliber carbine. The large bore saddle ring carbine in the 1892 model is scarce in its own right, but is near impossible to find one shipped and manufactured with a four digit serial number that still remains in excellent all original condition. Standard features include 20” barrel, full magazine, post front sight, folding ladder carbine rear sight, saddle ring and stud, walnut stock, carbine buttplate and blued finish. The barrel and tube are basically a smooth blue-brown patina with a ¾” flat spot/dent at right side of barrel at breech. The frame is a brown gun metal patina. Screw heads are sharp. Walnut stocks are very good with no cracks, albeit there is a small chip at top comb at buttplate and slight space at wrist. Retains generous amounts of original factory varnish. Action is perfect. Strong clean shiny bore.
