.44 caliber percussion with an 8" barrel. Manufactured in 1868. Rare deluxe original Nimschke engraved model 1860 Colt .44 percussion Army revolver circa 1868, specially ordered through the famed Schuyler, Hartley & Graham, New York City arms outfitter for a wealthy customer in 1868. Boldly and richly scroll engraved profusely in the distinctive New York Shop of L.D. Nimschke. Even the cylinder is covered. Originally the frame and the barrel were silver plated; and the rammer, cylinder and hammer were gold plated. Now with age, not wear, the gold and silver plating have simply flaked off, and only the barest hint/traces remain. Metal is an attractive smooth-as-glass metallic grey overall. All matching numbers. The "0" is slightly light struck at an angle on the trigger guard. Sharp edges and engraving is crisp. Barrel address is also crisp and front sight fill of height. Raised carved mellow ivory grip features a detailed American Federal eagle with shield, clutching arrows and an olive branch surrounded within a raised oval border Nice screws and mechanically tight. Rammer's spring catch is missing the little bar above it only. Although only a hint of finish remains, this example is otherwise near fine condition and a collector's prize. An exceptional special order Colt model 1860 Army.
