Barrel length is 22" in .54 bore. One of the most coveted of all carbines during the Civil War. This carbine remains in its original percussion configuration. The right side plate has all the proper patent dates and legends and are extremely strong. Top of barrel is stamped new model 1863. Left side of frame has the 1848 patent date. Barrel is stamped Sharps Rifle Manufg. Company Hartford Connecticut. Has the Lawrence patented 1859 folding ladder carbine site with standard post front. The original walnut stocks are very good with only one minor 3/4" crack on right side at side pipe. The wood to metal fit is excellent but does have an added coat of finish. It has the proper metal carbine plate, saddle ring and bar are intact, cartouche is no longer visible, left side of barrel has an E.A.W. inspector stamp. Original screw heads are excellent with just slight burr, operated flawlessly as a strong rifled bore with minor abrasion. All metal surfaces are a smooth very clean dull gun metal. Left side of stock has a small incised "M.R.C.P." with the same incision on the right side. Extremely clean and far above average 1863 carbine far better than most given usage and post war conversions.
