30-1/2" barrel, .41 bore. Some of the finest craftsman to ever ply their trade were those working in Lancaster county, Pennsylvania. Abraham Gibbs operated a gun shop on Prince Street in Lancaster prior to the Civil War. This rifle is a meticulously crafted, full stock sporting short rifle rarely seen during this era. Gibbs created an elegant full stock sporting rifle with a much handier overall length with perfect balance coupled with superior workmanship. The rifle features a full octagon barrel with a set rear sight and a dove tail front sight. The beautiful full stock features the hand polished oil rub piano finish with the stained striped pattern. The brass tipped rod is housed in 3 thimbles. The rifle has adjustable double set riggers. It sports a Leman Lancaster lock with delegate engraving. The brass trigger guard and rear stock thimble also exhibit delicate engraving as does the toe plate. The simplistic beauty of the brass patch box is also enhanced by the delicate engraving and the wood to metal fit is flawless. The wrist is hand checkered and still sharp, there is a nickel thumb rest on top, the traditional flat cheek piece on left side with a nickel owners plaque. The barrel is a smooth plum brown patina with makers stamp on top. The lock is a dull gun metal gray with some age freckling. The brass has a beautiful patina, the stock is near mint and nearly flawless. One of the best balanced full stock short rifles we have ever seen in just tremendous all original condition.
