Barrel length 33", .52 bore percussion. The famous Slotterbek Brothers of Philadelphia built this heavy barrel, single shot, sporting rifle for the just as famous A. J. Plate (Adolphus Joseph) famous San Francisco dealer of firearms 1850-1878. This exquisite rifle is stamped "Slotter & Co. Phila Made for AJ Plate San Francisco" on top of barrel flat. Left barrel flat is stamped "WARt Gain Twist 617". Breech plug and tang are beautifully engraved with platinum line. The side plate is stamped "Slotter & Co. Phila". The side plate, hammer, pan, trigger guard, and patchbox are all done in a German silver and are beautifully engraved as well. Rifle butt plate is nickel plated. Other features include adjustable set trigger, a beautiful walnut stock in excellent all original conditoin with full wrap around checkering at wrist, Pensylvania cheek piece on left side, silver plaque at wrist, back of hammer bolt is engraved with nickel inlay, it has a nickel fore-end cap. Barrel is retained by double nickel escutcheons with wedges. Oak rod is retained by two steel thimbles attached to solid under rib. Barrel is full, heavy octagon that measures 1-1/8" at muzzle. Rear sight is a simple dovetail leaf with German silver dovetail front. Strong rifled bore with usual black powder abrasions. Barrel was browned and is now a smooth grey brown patina. An exquisite, heavy barrel half stock with famous maker and dealer stamps. One of the finest half stock sporting rifles we have ever seen.
