.50 caliber percussion, barrel length 22-1/4". Manufactured by Richardson & Overman in Philadelphia. Features iron mountings with blued barrel, case colored frame, walnut butt stock with case colored patch box, with a sling bar and ring on left side. This is a standard model, patented in 1860. It has the original military folding leaf rear sight with a dovetail front sight. All metal is a soft brown grey patina. Walnut stocks are original and excellent with no cracks but usual minor dings. It has a strong, near mint rifled bore. Has strong cartouche. Quite an unusual mechanism, in that when the lever is lowered, the barrel suddenly slides forward and then tips forward for loading. It has the original nipple, perfect action. These carbines were very popular and saw extensive use during the Civil War. Nice, clean, all original example
