.50 cal percussion, barrel length 21-5/8". Popular Civil War carbine manufactured by Poultney and Trimble in Baltimore from 1861-1865. It is a breech loading percussion carbine that loads by tipping the barrel forward at the frame. It is referred to as the Smith's Patent. Barrel is released by a pressed button within trigger guard. Features a blue part octagon barrel, case colored frame, saddle ring and bar, single barrel band, walnut stocks with carbine butt plate. This rifle sports the original ladder rear sight, front sight blade has been replaced. Barrel is a mix of blue and brown. Receiver has turned grey patina with no color. Nipple is replaced. Lock bar has some pitting. Stock has 2" repaired crack at right wrist, with two other cracks with repair on left side. Cartouche is not readable. It has a strong rifle bore with minor black powder abrasions.
