Caliber .50 Percussion. Barrel length - 20". Offered is a standard 2nd Model Maynard Carbine manufactured from 1863 to 1865. These were made without the tape primer system and no patchbox. A saddle ring and bar is mounted on left side of frame. The barrel is finished in factory blue while the frame, hammer, and lever are color case hardened with walnut stock. This is a single shot with exposed hammer. Carbine has survived showing little use. The barrel retains nearly all its factory blue finish and is martially stamped on left barrel flat and sports the two leaf folding rear sight. Front sight blade is a replacement. The frame retains approximately 30 to 40% original case colors. Right side of frame is stamped "Mfg'd by Mass. Arms CO Chicopee Falls". Walnut stock is in near mint condition. Left side at wrist has two perfectly legible inspector cartouches. Traces of color on buttplate with inspector mark "S". This same "S" can be found stamped on the saddlebar. Strong, clean, near mint bore and perfect action. The Maynard was an extremely popular carbine with the Union Cavalry during the Civil War.
