Offered are two examples of the very first air rifles manufactured by the famous Crossman Firm in 1923 and 1924 only. Both feature walnut stocks with steel frames. According to the book, the third variation features a nickel plated brass compression tube, which both of these exhibit. One rifle has the front bridge slot cut for a variation one sight that has been removed and has the second variation rear peep sight. The other rifle does not have the slot cut, it has the standard second variation rear peep sight. Neither are marked Crossman, as is usually found in third variation, which would indicate that these were transition models, exhibiting some features of both earlier and later variations of the 1923 Model. The rifle with the variation one sight slot has an excellent stock with no cracks, smooth black composite buttplate, 85% original nickel plating with 90% blued tube and comes with sling and swivels. The second rifle with the second variation rear peep sight has the same type of stock and buttplate, but the original finish is crackling and has a 2" repaired crack on left side at frame. It, too, has 85-90% of the nickel plating with the majority of the blue finish on frame and tube. Very difficult to find these early Crossmans.
LOT OF 2: CROSSMAN MODEL 1923 AIR RIFLES.
