This ensemble begins with a U.S. Springfield Model 1903 rifle manufactured in 1918. Rifle is chambered for the .30-06 cartridge with a 24" barrel. This rifle is in beautiful all original condition as follows: walnut high hump hand guard; walnut two bolt stock with wide hand grooves and "P" in circle at wrist; left side of wrist is stamped "S.A. DAL"; has the proper military blue finish of the period; dished rear sight adjustments; straight bolt; all milled parts; barrel band stamped with "U"; smooth steel buttplate; 1917 dated sling with brass frogs. Barrel is dated "6-18 S.A.". Has an original baoynet with the canvas cover and leather tip. Wood is excellent with no cracks, only minor usual war dings, and a deep, rich finish. Frame retains approximately 90-95% of the original arsenal blue finish. The exposed war-time barrel finish is thinning to approximately 50%. Has an ME reading of '1' with a clean bore. The trigger guard and floorplate retain about 70% original blue, starting to patina. Buttplate retains approximately 75% of the original high polish blue finish. A unit number '398' is stamped at rear heel. This ensemble is accompanied by an original 1918 canvas rifle case, and original canvas ammo belt, and a World War I tunic with all of the original buttons intact and sleeve patches on both sides. A wonderful high condition, all original World War I issue 1903 Springfield with a complete set of accoutrements.
