Barrel length 42", .69 percussion smooth bore. The 1842 percussion musket was the first regulation model using the percussion system. It was also the last smooth bore weapon made in .69 caliber and the first weapon made at the Springfield and Harpers Ferry Armories with fully interchangeable parts. Features iron furniture, three bands, the lock is stamped "Harpers Ferry" and dated 1849, with 'US" and eagle. Right side of barrel is stamped "WCK". Hammer is stamped "V". Left side of barrel has VP proofs. Butt plate is stamped "US". Front band has integral sight. It has the flat tulip ramrod with small bayonet lug underneath barrel. Left side of walnut stock has two visible cartouche stamps. Stocks are excellent with minor abrasions. Metal is a deep, rich chocolate patina with some salt and pepper at breech. It has the original nipple. Fairly clean bore. A nice clean example of a US martial smooth bore musket.
