Barrel length is 5-3/4", caliber is .45 long Colt. According to the Colt Factory letter this gun was sold to the U.S. Government in a shipment of 100 guns shipped on January 13, 1885 as a standard Calvary revolver with a standard 7-1/2" barrel and walnut stocks. Revolver features all matching numbers and bears the U.S. stamp on left side of frame along with the D.F.C. (David Clark) inspector stamp on bottom of barrel, frame, and cylinder. The trigger guard is stamped with the G inspector mark as is the back strap. This United States Calvary issued revolver was wholesaled to a dealer such as Harley & Graham. At such time, the barrel was shortened to 5-3/4" and the entire gun was dealer nickel plated during the era of it's use with the exception of it's trigger and hammer. All factory legends are sharp. All parts are correct for this gun including the hammer and the donut style ejector rod head. It was fitted with a set of fine two piece ivory grips. One of the left frame screws is fire blued, all others are nickel plated. It has all four perfect Colt clicks and locks up tight as new. Has a strong bore with some very minor black powder abrasion. Very interesting old Colt. The gun retains approximately 95% dealer applied nickel finish. All screw heads are excellent. It was a very common practice in the 19th century for dealers to purchase Government surplus and alter them for the Civilian trade and this revolver remains in beautiful condition. This revolver is housed in a period double loop tooled holster with matching money belt. A really fine Colt set.
