Barrel length 27", .44 rimfire. Manufactured 1870-1871. Offered is an untouched original Winchester Model 1866, military style musket. Features: 27" barrel, 24" magazine, three barrel bands, post front sight, simple leaf rear sight, brass frame, sling swivels, and brass carbine butt plate. The brass butt plate and frame are wonderful mustard, uncleaned patina. Walnut stocks are excellent, proud to metal. Barrel, tube, and bands are a rich brown patina. Fine barrel legends. Butt plate has a regimental stamp (69). The two right barrel band screws are period replacements. The rifle needs some mechanical attention as the lever just falls and the hammer does not cock. Strong visible rifling with black powder abrasion. With a little attention to the mechanics, this would be an extremely fine, all original Model 1866 musket that was obviously issued to some State militia
