.50-70 caliber, barrel length 36". Approximately 10,000 of these rifles were manufactured between 1871-1872 for the US government. Standard features include: case hardened frame, all other metal left in the white, with walnut stocks, two barrel bands, sling swivels, cleaning rod, military sights, and a carbine butt plate. Right side of frame has the eagle and is stamped "US Springfield 1872". Right side of frame is stamped "Model 1871". Unit ID marks are also stamped on left side as follows: "3 H 27". Remington patent stamped on tang. Walnut stocks are very good with no cracks and a strong ESA cartouche in oval on left side. The barrel and bands have been cleaned and you can see some salt and pepper. Butt plate has been cleaned. Case colors on frame have nickeled out but have not been polished. Strong rifled bore with some abrasion.
