12 bore, Barrel length 29". The firm of James Purdey & Sons of London is perhaps the most famed maker of smooth bores in the world. They have made shotguns since 1880 for all of the Royal Houses. This is a best quality, side lock hand ejector model. Blued barrels feature a raised, finely matted rib with single bead sight. The left barrel is choked "full", the right barrel is choked "improved". It has a 15" LOP to front trigger, a 1-3/4" drop at comb and a 2-3/8" drop at the heel. This is a simple and elegant shotgun, as there is no engraving on the receiver with the exception of the gold border and Purdey & Sons in script on side plates, and gold inlay at base "J. Purdey & Sons, London, England" and the serial number. Balance of frame is simply done in a beautiful polished blue. It has a push-button release fore-end. The wood is a fiery grained, oil finish. The forearm is checkered with a diamond pattern center. Wrap around checkering at wrist. It has a semi-skeletal butt plate in which the heel and toe are metal, exposed in center, with fully checkered wood. Faces and locks up tight. Lever centers at 6 o'clock. Barrel retains approx 80% blue, thinning on sides and muzzle. Frame retains approx 90% blue, thinning at base and high edges. Wood has some minor dings and there is a 1-3/4" stress crack on both sides of heel at butt plate. This shotgun is cased in a hard leather case, with maker label, accessories include ebony cleaning rod, snap caps, a pretty oil bottle, and a turn screw. Comes with an original owner's manual.
