Barrel length 26", 12 bore, right barrel choked "cyl", left barrel choke "mod", 14" LOP to front trigger, Features: Damascus twist barrels with wide rib, double bead sights, fine bores, no wiggle in action with fore-arm removed, finely checkered walnut stocks. Fore-end has ebony inset. Wrist has wrap around checking with no cracks, perfect wood to metal fit, with composite grip and butt plate. Top of barrel flat is stamped "Hunter Arms Co. Makers, Fulton N.Y.". Left side plate is stamped "L.C. Smith". The case colored frame is delicately engraved with pheasants on left and pigeons on right, with fine engraving on trigger guard.This exact pattern can be found on page 175 in the L. C. Smith book by Houchins. The L.C. Smith No. 3 gun popularly referred to as a $100 gun in the trade. "When a customer purchased a $100 gun, it signified that he expected and could afford something better and that is exactly what he got." The No. 3 was intrduced 1892 with Damascus steel barrels. The nitro steel barrel were introduced 1895. This model was in the lineup until 1913. A total of 3,790 No. 3 guns were sold between 1892-1913. This shotgun has all matching numbers. This shotgun was shipped in 1896. The Damascus barrels are a smooth brown patina with a nice pattern. The frame retains generous amount of case colors with sharp checkering. The butt plate has a 1/4" chip at the top. A beautiful all original high grade antique L. C. Smith shotgun.
