42" round barrel, .69 caliber. Referred to as the Type 3, a.k.a. National Armory Bright. Bright finish was standard. More of this type were converted to percussion than any other. This rifle was manufactured in Harpers Ferry 1838 with US eagle. Left side of barrel has VP proofs. Features walnut stock with no visible cartouche, has owner initials carved on left side. Barrel is a smooth brown patina. It has three barrel bands, walnut stocks are very good with usual dents. Refinished at one time, maybe at time of conversion. Butt plate is stamped "US". Fine action. The bore is very good with usual abrasions. Ramrod is replacement. These rifles, as converted, saw wide usage during the Civil War.
