Barrel length 22", .45-70 caliber. The serial range places it just after the Custer Massacre and is a standard issue Trapdoor carbine in all respect. All metal finish is a brown patina. Left side of barrel has "V P" eagle head proof. Block is stamped "US Model 1873". Side plate stamped "US Springfield" with eagle. Butt plate is stamped "US". Barrel band stamped "U". Has the proper stamped carbine rear sight stamped "C". The stock is a long wrist with visible but faint cartouche on the left side. The stock is in excellent condition with usual minor abrasions. Lovely finish. Strong rifling with black powder abrasions. Pin front sight blade is a period replacement. Nice clean, honest 1873 Saddle Ring Carbine.
