Caliber .32 W.C.F, Barrel length is 13". According to the factory research letter this rifle was shipped on December 18, 1889. As follows: rifle, 40-60 caliber, 30" barrel, barrel shape: octagon No. 4, Set trigger, checkered stock with pistol grip, sights: Lynman Front, swiss butt, swiss cheek piece. This fine deluxe Winchester model 1885 conforms to all factory specifications except the caliber which would indicate either a factory recording error or gun was re-barreled but given the aging to the finish on this barrel, if it had been changed it had to have been done during the period of use. It is still a heavy No. 4 barrel and remains in beautiful condition. The barrel retains a pleasing blue-soft patina with razor sharp edges and strong barrel legend. The case colors on the frame and lever have turned a dark hue patina. The deluxe walnut stocks are near mint, proud to metal, razor sharp checkering, with no cracks or chips of any kind with firey grain. The swiss butt plate is a soft mustard color. The bore is excellent with strong rifling and the action is perfect. This is a spectacular deluxe heavy barrel Hi-Wall that remains in wonderful condition in a desirable configuration. Speculation as to whether the caliber was a factory recorded error or period re-barreled is purely conjecture.
