In 1897, Winchester produced a cartridge board referred to as the "Double W". It came in two versions, the more famous and valuable version had the actual cartridges attached to the backboard. At the same time, they offered the same image but the cartridges are pictured on the litho. Features beautiful full color lithography showing each cartridge offered by Winchester at the time. The centerpiece artwork is a 14-1/2" oval that pictures two hunters with a bear and a Winchester Lo-Wall rifle and a Deluxe Lever Action 1894. One side is a mallard in full flight and the other side features the head of a moose. The board itself measures 49" long x 32" high. It is house in its original oak frame with gold painted inner liner. It did not come under glass so they were very susceptible to damage. It has the original back braces. There are a few of the usual minor scuffs, none of which detract from the beauty of this piece. It has been completely blacklight tested and it is devoid of any in-painting of any kind. Colors are still brilliant with no fading. No visible staining. No tears. Given the survival rate of these rare, large litho boards and the fine all-original condition, this could be a centerpiece in any gun room.
FABULOUS WINCHESTER "DOUBLE W" CARTRIDGE LITHO.
