Description Early 19th century. Contains a one page letter by Napoleon on printed stationary headed "Bonaparte 1st Consul de la Republique" from June 3, 1800. Lot also includes letters by Maria Anna Elisa, Baronne de Anne Louise Germaine Stael-Holstein, Marie Louise Bonaparte, General Charles Victor Emmanuel Leclerc, Eugene Beauharnais Napoleon, Empress Josephine, and Joseph the King of Naples. All matted with portraits and framed under glass. Item I - 1 page ALS by Maria Anna Elisa (1777-1820), sister of Napoleon, dated 4/29/1812, regarding the "taking of the oath by those in the Grand Duchy to Whom His Majesty, the Emperor has conferred the Imperial Order of the Reunion". Item II - 6 Line ANs by Baronne de Anne Louise Germaine Stael-Holstein (1766-1817) to Dr. Roget, offering her condolences upon a death. Stael was a French writer who fled France during the Revolution, was exiled by Napoleon, and returned after the fall of his empire in 1815. Item III - 5 line ANS by Marie Louise Bonaparte (1791-1847), daughter of Archduke Francis, afterward Emperor of Austria. She became Napoleon's second wife in 1810 and mother of Napoleon II (B. 1811.) Written "Dear Friend", it discusses a book sent but Countess Gean and received by her in Paris. Item IV - 1 Page Letter by Napoleon on printed stationary headed "Bonaparte 1st Counsul de la Republique" and dated Milan, the 14th Prairial in the 8th year of the Republic (June 3, 1800). Written to the Consuls of the Republic, he is forwarding to them the Army Bulletin and also, a letter from General Suches concerning the considerable enemy forces at Nice, and lastly that he will return from Milan to Paris on the 25th of Prairial. Item V - 1 page ALS by General Charles Victor Emmanuel Leclerc on his printed letterhead and written to general Heudelet and dated June 15, 1800. LeClerc, husband of Napoleon's sister, Pauline Bonaparte, is writing about his elation over current victories and orders supplementation of meal rations and extra wine for his officers. LeClerc was an important figure in the French Revolution and served under Napoleon in Egypt. He conquered Santo Domingo but died of Yellow Fever in the same year. Item VI - 1 Page ALS by Eugene Beauharnais Napoleon (1781-1824), stepson of Napoleon, son of Josephine and his viceroy of Italy from 1805. Writing to General Baron Triare, Eugene instructs him that the first cavalry column returning to Italy stop at Verona to organize a primary campaign service composed of 2 brigades of saddle horses, etc. Item VII - 1 page Ls by Josephine, Empress (1763-1814). First Wife and Consort of Napoleon. This appears to be a 7 line directive stating that the "citizen" is under a great obligation to her to confide to the "Direction des Sortes" a matter concerning military administrations of the Army of Italy, and is signed "Lapagerie bonaparte". Item VIII - 1 page ALs by Joseph (1768-1844), brother to Napoleon, King of Naples (1806-1808), and Spain (1808-1813). The text of the letter, written to the nephew on March, 1807 from Naples begins (in French) "I thank you your highness very much for the news which you have had the kindness to give me regarding the Grand Army. The English are sending their troops to Trieste. There are rumors that the aim of the expedition they are planning includes Egypt and Constantinople from the Gulf of Naples (the Adriatic Sea), from which it will be able to threaten Venice and Dalmatia. I have no news of the disposition of our troops nor of the expedition under General Michelson. I would appreciate whatever news your highness gives me concerning it. The interior of the country today has been taken over from the brigands who are destroying it..." Signed, Joseph
