Large portrait of President James Buchanan, unsigned, oil on canvas. He sits in a red plush chair holding a rolled paper, dressed in a formal suit and white bow tie. This portrait was one of at least two versions purportedly taken from life during the course of three weekends in New York. Painting has been professionally conserved and frame restored. Ornate gold gilt and gesso frame has some cracking and wear.

Condition: (Good).
