Measures 15" in height with a 4-3/4" base, cup is supported by three 6-3/4" military muskets and a 2-1/4" military figural soldier is perched atop the lid. The base is stamped "J.G. & Sons" and "1765". The cup has three oval inscription panels, the first reads "Presented for annual competition to the 2nd Battery 1st Fifeshire Artillery Volunteers, Newport by Alexander Scott, Esq. Banker, Dundee, the first Chief Magistrate of the burgh of Newport, 1887," The second panel is inscribed "Won by Sergt. B. H. W. Rithhie 1st Sept, 1888." Beneath it is listed the winners for the following years: 1897-1904. The last panel is inscribed "1st V.B.R.H. Newport Detachment, 1897." The two additional winners are inscribed between for 1905 and 1906. The cup itself features repousse florals and chased designs, as well as scalloped edges. Excellent; has been polished. No repairs.
