Tapered round barrel is fitted with file cut top rib lowered toward front forming front ramp. "Daniel Fraser & Co", "Gun & Rifle Manufacturers" and "4 Leith St. Terrace Edinburgh" is engraved on uncut central portion in front of one standing, two folding nested leaf express rear sight. Case hardened action having side lever with pivoting thumb actuated lock and automatic tang safety is engraved with Celtic knot work and scroll borders. Receiver ring is engraved "Fraser's Patent" and "294". Serial number is engraved on trigger guard bow. Barrel takes down by pivoting long blued lever on left side and unscrewing barrel, while holding side lever in lowest position and with forend removed. Very nicely marbled and lightly figured European walnut horn capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14-5/8" over coarsely checkered horn buttplate. Stock features thin double shadow line right hand cheekpiece, three point pattern checkering at grip, and sling loop on toe line. Matching one piece forend with Alexander Henry type groove at front, removes for barrel takedown with a Deeley latch. Very good to fine, original. Strong rifling. Mechanically fine. Barrel is very tight and does not takedown easily. A very highly regarded Scottish stalking rifle. Weight: 7 lbs 0 oz. From the G. Thomas Puett Collection.
