Chiseled rope border with small scrolls and border outlining tang and top of receiver ring. Opposite side of receiver is same scroll and floral arabesque with vignette of bounding stag or whitetail deer. Muzzle and breech of barrel have small scrolls with gold bands at each end. Bead sporting front sight with three leaf folding express sight at rear. Receiver is mounted with Lyman Model 21 "Climbin' Lyman" side sight. Two piece checkered American walnut stocks with pistol grip are highly figured and are XXX grade as verified by tang markings. Steel shotgun butt. The 1895 Winchester rifle is found with some of the rarest examples of embellishment and engraving patterns. This rifle with its extra length special order barrel, gold inlays, dual game scene engraving and special order deluxe stocks is really a unique rifle. Chambered in the very rare .38-72 cartridge and being an antique make this a rare opportunity to own a very special Winchester rifle. Very fine as completely restored. Very good bore with sharp rifling. Crisp mechanics. Several minor bruises and scratches on deluxe stocks as well as slightly worn checkering. Shipped August 25th, 1897 as a .30 caliber rifle (.30-40); letter states wrong caliber and does not mention deluxe. From the Ray Bentley Collection. CORRECTION: It has come to our attention that this rifle has been professionally restored at an earlier time. The restoration is limited to the receiver and barrel.
