Offered is an unfired example of the earliest Merwin Hulbert .44 single action. Earliest features include case colored humpback hammer, scoop flutes, twin indent screws above trigger, mottled red saw handle gutta percha grips, fire blue trigger and factory nickel finish. This is a six shot single action with factory lanyard ring. The earliest models were offered in .44 M&H only. Left side of barrel is stamped "HOPKINS & ALLEN NORWICH", top of barrel is stamped with the Merwin Hulbert New York patent dates. Cylinder face and chambers show no signs of having been fired. Hammer retains the majority of the brilliant case colors. Trigger guard has a mix of nickel and brown patina. The red grips are in near new condition. 80% fire blue on trigger. Frame and grip straps retain 95% original nickel finish with some light age freckling. Cylinder has a light drag line and some high edge wear but still retains 95% nickel as well. The barrel is approximately 75% nickel mixed with some usual age spotting, mostly on right side from storage. Indexes tight as new with good suction and a strong clean bore with minor abrasions. An extremely nice example of a mid-1870's Merwin Hulbert .44 M&H revolver.
