This is a very scarce variation of the Mauser Broomhandle pistol. The flat side pistols, featuring a large ring hammer were made approximately 1899-1900. This gun has the mark of "VON LENGERKE/ & DETMOLD/ NEW-YORK" on the left side of the frame. All numbers are matching. Inlaid into the right grip is a piece of silver that is inscribed "BvL". The matching wood shoulder stock has "BARON/ VON/ LENGERKE" impressed into it within a rectangle on rear side. Markings appear to be period. A quick search of "Baron Von Lengerke" comes up with a reference to him being the "late Duke of Brunswick's Body-Guard, and afterwards merchant in London". Certainly further research needs to be done. CONDITION: The gun has 95% of a restored finish. Markings are clear. Silver piece in grip has a nice patina. Grips are very good. Bore is good with some small areas of roughness and good rifling. Fine mechanical function. Stock is good, the finish on the attaching iron has been restored, the rest of the finish on the metal parts is original. Wood has some dings and handling marks. Standard crack extending down from the grip cutout.
