Probably American circa 1750-1770. The sword has a tapered straight triangular blade with a deep partial fuller on the reverse side, unengraved. The solid silver hilt has a clam shell guard with relief borders and an indistinct single hallmark on the rim of the reverse side, denoting probable American manufacture. The rings terminate in curled scrolls rather than joining the guard. The grip is wrapped with braided silver wire with a large braided ferrule at the base. CONDITION: Blade retains a grey patina with some light scattered pitting, tip flattened slightly. Hilt is polished. Grip shows some applied glue to hold delicate strands in place. Attractive sword of the type carried by officers in the colonies. DMG
