Very good example of a Confederate used South Carolina state contract sold by William Glaze of Columbia, South Carolina in the early 1850’s. This example has all the proper characteristics, including “Columbia SC” on ricasso with its various broken dies. All structure pertinent to this model cavalry saber are found here including the single pin scabbard. The 36" blade is in fine condition as is the scabbard, which like the rest of the sword appears “as found” with scattered areas of rust and patina. Hilt is well patinaed as are the areas of broken wire that wrap the grip. CONDITION: Overall very good, sound and tight. Blade is grey with scattered areas of staining, rust and pitting. Hilt exhibits patina under old cleaning. Scabbard has areas of original brown finish under large areas of crusted rust and pitting. Cord wrapped original grip retains about 90% or its original leather. Wire is broken in two places, and last three wraps appear to be from another piece of period wire. CONDITION: Very good. BM
