Group of 16 Civil War letters written to John and Mary Bliss from Andrew Gordon and Thomas Musgrove, both of Co I 77th New York Infantry and dated from December 1861 to June 1865. Written in ink, subjects include camp life, scouting, searching for rebels, deaths of friends, etc. Some notable quotes: "I supose you have all herd of the fight in Mayarland long before now, it was a big battle but we ganed the day and drove them out of Mayarland", "We are all giting sick of fighting and long for the day to come for it to close", "If I see a rebel I will give him an oz of lead", "We are agoing to plow the Rebels land with bullets and sow it with thre heads and dray it in with their fingers", "We have big siege guns that will shoot haf a mild easy", "Marched to Spanish Fort and took that" "Burnt the railroad", "Feed us on bread and rotten tongue". "Can't write, cannons a shaking the ground". Included are a number of pre and post Civil War letters, receipts, envelopes etc. CONDITION: All letters are quite legible and with the exception of a few minor tears and splits at the folds, are in very good or better condition.
