Lot consist of: Seven flasks; six service flasks of copper and brass, and one of tinned iron with impressed star and cap tin compartment. (A) USN fouled anchor 1846 dated on top with "Adams / J.S.P." CONDITION: Excellent. Thumb piece frozen. Slightly rubbed patina to copper, no dents, good seams, both rings in place. (B) USN fouled anchor. "N.P. Ames" and "1843" with script "JL" inspector. CONDITION: Excellent. Spring good. Good patina to brass and copper. No dents. Tight seams. (C) USCG. CONDITION: Excellent. Spring good. Even medium patina to brass body and top. Minor dark stains. Green spot near ring. Green in recesses of lettering. (D) USLSS. CONDITION: Excellent. No dents. Good seam. Functioning spring. Untouched age mottled patina to brass. Minor wear scratches to lacquer on brass collar. Rings in place. Rope through rings for display. (E) 1850 dated Batty peace flask with ADK inspector initials and original leather strap with horseshoe buckle. CONDITION: Excellent. Flask with nice even, age patina, no dents, good seam and excellent detail on raised eagle, panoply of arms with superimposed shield and clasped hands in an oval of stars on each side. Functioning spring. Narrow leather strap sewn to rings with cracking to brown finish and one break, but nice period gilt horseshoe buckle in place and no missing leather. (F) Early "Public Property" flask with raised rifleman's trumpet on each side and raised "Public Property" motto on one. CONDITION: Excellent. No dents, good seam, untouched patina. Functioning spring. (G) Unusual civilian or militia tinned iron flask with narrow spout and cap, flat on one side, rounded on the other. Three loops for cord or narrow rope suspension. Unusual round hinged door on the round side that opens to reveal a removable tinned iron cap tin. The cap tin cover is embossed with a five-pointed star, as the flat back of the flask as well (border with two raised lines, the outer of which also extends at a raised border to the flat side of the flask running up to the spout. CONDITION: Excellent. Oxidation and slight rubbing to the tinned surface leaving a mix of silver and grey. Slight broad push to the reverse, but good seams. The star motif and tin for percussion cap indicates likely intended use by a member of a rifle armed, militia light infantry company. A very good selection of US flasks in top-shelf condition. (SR)
