Regulation pattern 1833 dragoon saber with scabbard. "NP Ames / Cutler / Springfield / 1837" drypoint etched obverse above guard. "United States" over leafy branch on reverse. CONDITION: Very good. Hilt with untouched medium brass patina. Very good leather with just minor wear near pommel. Correct, tight coiled wire binding. Very slight ding to backstrap near guard. "MPL" crisp at upper edge inside of guard. "WS" on quillon disk. Blade pad is present. Blade is bright with very slight grey areas. Blade etching a tad light, but very legible. A couple of tiny edge nicks, nothing very noticeable. Scabbard is good and bears both WS and MPL stamps, but has been polished bright with a few grey and brown spots coming up. A very good example of the regulation early dragoon saber. (SR). PROVENANCE: From the Collection of George M. Rapport.
