This attractive sword has a slightly curved unfullered blade with long blued panels of engraved and gilt-decorated motifs. The right side features a patriotic splayed eagle holding an "E. PLURIBUS UNUM" banner in its beak as well as floral motifs. The other side decorated en suite with a stand of arms rather than an eagle. Gilt brass reverse 'P' hilt with languettes and a forward curved quillon. Cast gilt brass eagles head pommel with integral backstrap. Bone grip with alternating panels of checkering, roping and fluting. The sword is complete with its original gilt brass scabbard engraved with foliate motifs and a large eagle on a stippled ground. CONDITION: Blade retains about 40-50% original bright blue with remainder faded or frosted, retains most of gilt finishes and polished section shows some light frosting and light pitting. Hilt retains 50-60% original gilt finish with wear on backstrap and high edges. Grip shows a chip on the underside, near pommel and some hairline age cracks. Scabbard retains about 90% original gilt finish with some minor wear and thinning. A very attractive sword. DMG. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of George M. Rapport.
