32" deeply curved blade with single fuller running approximately 3/4 of the length of the blade. Decorated blade with patriotic motifs including an Indian warrior, a torch, an American seal with eagle and "E Pluribus Unum", and a stand of arms. On right side of blade, intermixed with the decoration, is "N.P. Ames / Cutler / Cabotville." Cast and chased D guard with florals. Leather grip with single braided brass wire wrap. Scabbard is of the early type sans a throat piece and designed to sit into the recessed guard. CONDITION: Very good. Blade has been cleaned and the edge was cleaned heavily enough that the etching disappears approximately 7" from the guard. Guard has taken on a lovely dark yellow patina with some marks commensurate with use and handling. Grip is very good, complete. Scabbard is very good, now an even brown patina with a few flashes of gilding, most visible in protected areas. Some minor dents in the scabbard on either side of the hanger rings and towards the drag. A nice example of a very rare saber. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of George M. Rapport. EW.
