These large ring pistols were made just prior to the Italian contract. The rear sight is graduated from 50-500 meters. Correct German Imperial and Oberndorf stamps. All visible matching numbers with exception of wooden stock which bears number 14911. The stock is stamped Westley Richards in oval on left side. It is interesting to note that many of these transitional large ring pistols will be found with English retailer marks but this pistol bears no such marks. The grips are the rare and desirable monogram gutta percha. CONDITION: The pistol retains approximately 75% original factory blue finish that is starting to thin and dull a bit and blending to a smooth homogeneous look. Grips are excellent but have a few minor handling marks. All legends are sharp. Rifling is thin but well defined. The stock has light crack on left side. Handsome early gun especially with the rubber grips. DB CORRECTION: It has been discovered this Mauser pistol is a pre-1898 antique.
