Referring to the book "US Military Holsters and Related Accouterments" by Edward Meadows, page 569; "It is the author's opinion that this holster dates from 1905 with the adoption of the Colt Model 1905 US Marine Corps revolver, but that is possible it was also used earlier with the 1895 revolvers issued to the Marine Corps.". Holster is manufactured of russet leather and the flat is embossed "USMC" in an oval. Rivets are made of iron. Maker is unmarked. Has a brass snap. CONDITION: Toe plug is missing. There is some checking on the flap. Body is excellent. Holster is still soft and supple. This is the first ever style leather holster specifically marked for the Marine Corps. Very hard to find due to its low production and survival rate. Seldom seem on the market. An absolute must-have for the collector of early Marine Corps equipment. DB
FIRST TYPE EVER MARINE CORPS MARKED LEATHER HOLSTER MANUFACTURED.
