Lot consists of: Black cotton sateen tunic with Signal Corps collar insignia, eagle buttons, bullion "Operator In Charge" chevron sewn on the left sleeve and metallic tape overseas chevron on left cuff: Matching black cotton sateen shirt with integral belt. The Signal Corps Female Telephone Operators Unit also known as "Hello Girls", were an auxiliary unit of the US Army during World War I. Experienced, bilingual female telephone operators were recruited by the US Army and sent overseas to aid the failing communication lines of the Allies in wartime France. In 1917, over 7,000 US women applied but only 450 were enlisted and 220 sent to France. Accompanying the uniform is a note from the original owners nephew and one from the collector identifying the uniform to Ida Trahan from Central Falls, Rhode Island. CONDITION: There is a 2" rip on the inner left cuff but overall the uniform is in very good condition.
