Deep blue wool sash or baldric, embroidered with the Marine Band's crest and the Marine Corps' battle honors. Edged with patterned gold tape, double sided, the face with the motto "The Presidents Own" of gold bullion embroidery edged with gilt brass wire on a red satin scroll, beneath which is a gold bullion embroidered badge incorporating an Eagle Globe and Anchor, lyre and thirteen stars. Continuing down the sash are twenty two red satin scrolls with gold bullion embroidered battle honors also edged in gilt brass wire. The reverse further displays another twenty four battle honors ending with "Vietnam". Backed with red morocco leather. “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band’s mission is to perform for the President of the United States and the Commandant of the Marine Corps. Founded in 1798 by an Act of Congress, the Marine Band is America’s oldest continuously active professional musical organization. A rarely encountered accoutrement considering that only one baldric is in use at any given time. CONDITION: Generally in very good condition with some loose gold threads at the bottom of the sash and light toning to the gold trim.
