The Lotfernohr 7 (Lotfe 7) bombing sight was the standard series of sights used by German Luftwaffe and was frequently seen in bomber aircraft such as the Focke-Wulf Fw 200 Condor, Junkers Ju 88, and the first jet powered bomber the Arado Ar 234 Blitz during World War II. The sight was frequently mounted on the nose of the aircraft and allowed for the bombardier to adjust and aim on ground targets 90° to 40° in front, as well as 20° on the left or right. This Lotfe 7 D-1 was manufactured by Steinheil Soehne as indicted by the "esu" manufacturer code. The data plate reads "Lotfe 7 D-1/ Gerat Nr 127-25 D-1/ Werk-Nr 5319/ Anforderz. FI 52661/ Hersteller: esu". Viewing angle, brightness, speed detection, and other adjustment knobs are found on either side of the sight. Metal sight box is not present. Complete with September 1941 dated instruction manual for the Lotfe 7 series bomber sights and a Bombsight elevation chart, used to assist the bombardier in calculating their adjustments for a ground target. CONDITION: Exterior components are covered in a layer of dust, and show few cosmetic handling marks. Rubber eye ring is in excellent condition. Optics are good, showing signs of light hazing. Overall, an exemplary example of a piece of equipment utilized by the most advanced air force of its time. MW
