The PZ.Z.F. 1, or Panzer Ziel Fernhor 1, was manufactured by Zeiss-Ikon at the Goerz plant in Zehlendorf, Berlin and is constructed of solid steel. These optics were designed to be mounted on a Sockellafette (Pedestal mount), or a Kugellafette (Ball mount), that was installed inside of fortified bunkers and mounted with an MG-34. The MG-34s benefited from the PZ.Z.F. 1 optic greatly, more than doubling their effective firing range from 1200 meters to an increased 3500 meters, allowing the gunner to engage targets at a substantially further distance by rotating the steering wheel. The left side of the optic is marked "P.Z.F.1 2.5x28°/ dpw/ Nr.3795". The sight is also marked with a triangle painted blue (indicating that it was sealed for cold weather usage) and is marked with Waffenamt code "WaA62" on the rear mount. Interior of case is painted with a WaA763 waffenamt. This sight is complete with the case, eye rest, removable Busch sight light, two additional bulbs, and two lens filters. Steering wheel adjustment ring is not present. CONDITION: Painted components on the sight are excellent, showing minor wear in a few areas. The optics show signs of hazing, but could be cleaned and clear again. Rear mount shows minute areas of high edge wear. Rubber eye ring is excellent. Case is good, retaining most of its original paint and markings with areas of rust and corrosion mostly centralized to the right side. Overall, this is a very fine and scarce specimen that would make for an excellent addition to any WWII enthusiasts collection. MW
