Imperial German Prussian "General der Artillerie" Kugelhelm. Artillery General helmets are rather uncommon since there were significantly less artillery Generals than infantry Generals. Common to general officer's Pickelhauben, this helmet has a square front visor. Its black leather body is nicely toned and has a moderate to heavy level of cracking to its finish. The leather visors exhibit the same wear as the body. All of the helmets fittings are gold toned with an attractive patina. The chin scales, officer stars, cruciform, pearl ring, base, trim, and ball are all in very nice condition. The helmet's Wappen is original to the helmet and is a piece of art. The Hohenzollern eagle's wings extend all the way to the cockades' center points on both sides. A stunning Garde star adorns the center of the eagle. The star's center displays a fantastic combination of multicolored enamel dominated by the gold and black eagle representing the House of Hohenzollern's nobility. The standard Prussian Garde Latin motto of "Suum Cuique" (To each according to his own merits) encircles the eagle. The helmet's interior represents a helmet which was worn often. Both the liner and silk liner are intact, and presents the wear consistent with routine wear. The sweatband has moderate staining overall, with a 1-1/2" crack on the front, and the liner exhibits moderate staining in the center. All of the interior fittings appear to be original to the helmet, with some light bright scratches to the washers securing the center plate, which indicate the nuts were slightly turned. The Kugelhelm does not have any marks or name. CONDITION: Overall very good to excellent. WZ
