Lot consists of: three US brass hilted saber bayonets of the Civil War period; one British Brown Bess bayonet of the Napleonic era; and one 1914 dated practice bayonet. (A) Bayonet and scabbard for the Remingon Zouave (US m1863 Contract Rifle.) Single subinspector blade stamp "s" near hilt. "BH" inspection mark top grip flat near muzzle ring. CONDITION: Bayonet is excellent. Blade is bright with good edge and point, no nicks, a few tiny grey age spots near hilt and very tip. Lock functions. Scabbard is good to very good, solid with good color and finish, but 10" seam opening. No missing leather, just popped stitching. Brass mounts and hilt with matching age patina. (B) 1861 dated left ricasso. Top blade flat number "312." This pattern is often identified as for a Merrill Rifle, but fits some Mississippi alterations, which the low mating number suggests. CONDITION: Blade is bright with grey and brown spots, mostly toward tip, but no pitting and good edge and point. Scabbard is solid. Two seam openings about 2" each. Some cracking to finish and areas of finish loss, but no bends or folds. Mounts with age patina. Hilt is brighter. Lock functions. (C) Whitney Plymouth bayonet and scabbard. Scarce bayonet for the navy rifle adopted under Dahlgren. "Collins & Co. Hartford Conn." at left ricasso. Guide slot full length with number "7502." Comes with period belt frog with swivel loop. Loop bears light stamp apparently reading "Horstmann / Philada." CONDITION: Excellent. Blade a smooth, subdued silver color with no nicks. A couple very minor and very light gray spots on obverse above ricasso. Hilt with Mellow patina. Lock functions. Scabbard is excellent with good finish and color. Mounts match hilt in patina. Swivel for belt loop on frog is frozen, but might loosen up with some TLC. (D) Brown Bess bayonet with 4" socket. Marked "Osborne" at base of blade with deeply impressed "X." CONDITION: Smooth, even grey metal mixed with brown age spots overall. Good edge and point. (E) US 1912 pattern practice or fencing bayonet made at Rock Island Arsenal. "R.I.A. / 1914 / W.Mc." stamp at base of leather wrap. CONDITION: Very good. Leather has good surface and stitching. R.I.A. mark is a bit light on last letters. Good blue on blade shank. Barrel loops are mixed steel grey and dark grey. Set screws are missing. A good bayonet lot with some nice US sword bayonets. SR
