Pressed beaver felt top hat en vogue 1850's to 1870's. Hat has a beaded wrap 2.35" wide of geometric pyramid designs made up of pink, greasy yellow, white centered rose, and dark blue beads on a white background. There is a band of German silver discs (seven total), affixed to a thin strip made of buffalo hide. Discs have rocker engraved edge designs and touch marks from maker on each disc. There is a horse hair tail stuck into hat band as well as bird of paradise type tail. The hat was painted a pinkish red, or was rubbed with pigment. These hats are seen in period photos but are rarely offered, and only a few survive, mostly in institutional holdings. Gold lettering to inside crown bears Lancaster County makers mark.
