Hilt follows regulation pattern with raised eagle in round panel on either side at top of grip, pineapple/urn finial, etc. Stippled shield langet on reverse. "PD" with stars in wreath border on obverse. Etched floral scrolls on both sides of blade. Obverse with "Pay Department" in central panel. Reverse with small panoply of arms, US shield, drum, etc. Scabbard is steel with regulation style brass mounts. CONDITION: Hilt is very good and nicely detailed with good casting, chasing, and strong remnants of gilt. Blade frosting is thin and shows up as gray. Etching is visible. Not highly detailed in execution. Metal is smooth, silver gray, but with some dark spots on the reverse and a patch of raised, red rust near the tip that should be cleaned.
