Prussian Model 1897 Pickelhaube to an officer of the 1st Grenadier Regiment "Crown Prince" (1st East Prussian). Germany. This regiment was formed in 1655 in Koenigsberg, East Prussia. The helmet is a high quality felt helmet with heavy coats of lacquer applied to its exterior. Helmet body is attractive and has a moderate amount of light crazing to the lacquered finish over most of the body. The polished visors have very light areas of damage to the finish, with light heat damage. The correct officer helmet trim, chin scales, spike base, pearl ring, stars, and spike are present. Both the Imperial German national and Prussian officer rosettes are present, with the Prussian one presenting more patina. Front plate is the fire gilt Prussian grenadier model, with the 1655 band added to the plate, as is the norm for officers in this regiment. The 1655 band is made from stamped brass and does not match the color and finish of the front plate. Bronze color officer quality silk liner is present with light age staining, and is detached from the sweat band approximately 40% of its circumference. Leather sweat band is present and has light staining from being worn, with light to wear on the folded edges. The helmet is made from a heavy dark blue felt, which is intact and undamaged. One of the star washers is missing, one has a nice age patina, and two are slightly larger and appear newer. The washers retaining the front plate are matching and do not appear to have been touched.
