Silver gripped US 1850 pattern staff and field officer's saber with British 1822 style scabbard with brass mounts. Standard configuration hilt with channeled silver grip, alternating smooth and faceted ridges. Twisted brass binding wire with border wires in place. Grip is contoured to "S" shape. Blade etching is foliate, panoply with US flag and "US" on reverse; foliate, panoply, American eagle with motto ribbon overhead. Scabbard brown with plain brass drag, rings and ring mounts, and throat. CONDITION: Medium patina to the brass. Dents to the upper grip at the pommel edge left and right. Blade pad in place. Legible etching but no frosting. Smooth metal, good edge and point, no nicks. Light silver-grey with grey spots. Some brown just at the guard on reverse. Scabbard very good. Sword seats, but with slight gap at front edge of throat and is likely a substitute scabbard. Scabbard is 33-1/4" top of throat to tip of drag. Smooth brown color, patina to brass. One very slight ding top edge, 9" from tip. SR
