Lot consists of: (A) 1850 dated Ames 1840 Cavalry saber with curving 35 - 1/2" blade with partial double fuller running for approximately 3/4 of the length of the blade. Right side of ricasso marked "US / A.D.K." Left side marked " Ames Mfg. Co. / Cabotville / 1850". Traditional three branch guard. Leather wrapped grip with single strand of braided brass wire. Pommel with A.D.K. and J.W.R. inspector marks. Plain steel scabbard with two hanger rings and ADK inspection on drag. CONDITION: Very good. Blade is shiny with cross polish and does not appear to have been cleaned. Brass has taken on a lovely deep yellow color. Leather grip is complete with several splits. Scabbard is good with some light oxidation and staining. (B) 1833 Naval sword in standard configuration with eagle engraved on pommel. Marked on top of guard "S. HUSE / NEWBURYPORT" "10" and "HKC" inspector mark at one quillion and a difficult to read "JM" at other quillion. CONDITION: Fair. Blade with significant nicks to blade as if it were used as a chopping tool after the war. Tip broken off. Blade with extensive pitting and refinished. Grip loose. Tang does not fit grip correctly.
