Very fine and clean example of a Type 90 combat helmet with its original cover that was worn by members of the Naval Landing Forces. This helmet is exceptional, as it is complete with its original liner, cover, chin straps, and metal naval landing forces helmet insignia. The helmet is excellent both inside and out. The first pattern model cloth cover does not display any rips or tears. There is only slight scuffs and marks that are probably from the light wear that this helmet experienced. The front of the cover displays the multi piece wool insignia of the Imperial Navy. The insignia does show some wool loss around the top and on either side of the anchor. Underneath the cover, the steel helmet retains almost all of its original wartime paint and displays several chips and scratches from service use. Both rivets are present and the naval landing forces insignia has suffered no paint loss. The helmet interior is as clean on the inside as the liner shows little wear. The “pillows” behind the three leather liner tongues remain filled. At the center of the interior past the liner, the numbers "2051" are written in white paint. One of the liner's leather tongues displays kanji, which is presumably the identification of the Japanese sailor who wore the helmet. The stitching around the liner is tight and shows no signs or tearing or coming loose. The fabric chin strap is complete but suffers from staining and some fraying, especially around the metal ring mounts that secure it in place. The metal rings both show signs of rust and have caused staining to the strap. CONDTION: Overall very good, this is a great example of a complete Type 90 Naval Landing Forces helmet that will make a wonderful addition to a Japanese militaria or headgear collection. JD
