Lot consists of: (A) US WWII front seam fixed bale helmet Identified to Robert H. Thompson. According to his obituary, in which a copy will be included in this lot, Thompson was a Pennsylvania native who entered service into the Army Air Forces and became a B-17 Bombardier. On one mission leading up to D-Day Thompson was wounded which resulted in a piece of an enemy shell being permanently lodged in his head. He made a full recovery, survived the war, and became a teacher who was renowned by his students. During the war, Thompson was awarded the Silver Star, Air Medal, Purple Heart, and European Service Ribbon. The helmet displays its original green paint with a hand painted 1st Lieutenant bar on the front. The heat stamp is legible and reads "575B" denoting that it is a McCord contract helmet. The helmet has its original low pressure liner marked "HR" in sliver on the inside for Hood Rubber. The helmet is named to Thompson on the chinstrap and the liner contains Thompson's name on the interior of the wearer's right side. CONDITION: The helmet shell still retains most of its original paint but displays blemishes from service wear. The canvas chinstrap is in very good condition and shows no signs of fraying. Liner retains almost all of its original paint. The Hardware is complete and the only blemishes are from Lt. Thompson's sweat that stained the leather sweatband. The leather chinstrap is present, but it has cracked and split in half. (B) ID'D US WWII front seam swivel bale helmet with liner. The helmet retains a partial heat stamp that ends in "...4C" The interior of the helmet is ID'D and reads "Lewis Jessup 46049006" in white paint. The liner is marked with the Firestone "F" on the interior. CONDITION: Helmet shell still retains most of its original paint but displays blemishes from service wear. The canvas chinstrap is in very good condition and shows no signs of fraying. Liner still retains its original hardware but does not have a leather sweatband. (C) Fine quality US WWII officer's visor hat. Hat is marked on the interior "Quality De Luxe / B.S. Baltimore & S / Hand Tailored. There is a "7" written in pen underneath the sweatband which is presumably the size. Cap badge is an unmarked screw back device. CONDITION: Hat retains all of its original components, all leather pieces on that hat are soft and pliable. The leather visor shows minor cracking from age. There are a few minor moth nips but this is a complete hat in excellent condition. JD
